About us

BEST, Billings Environmentally Sustainable Transportation, DBA Repedal

A nonprofit 503c started in 2018 to get people on bicycles. We took used bicycles and redistributed back into the community with DIY workshops. It was very satisfying, but an incredible amount of work. Then Covid! With a lack of volunteers, we decided to start an online store to have a larger impact working smarter rather than harder.

A community-oriented nonprofit that promotes the personal, social, and environmental benefits of bicycling.

Repedal strives:

► to make a difference!
►to build a stronger bicycling community where everyone should (regardless of income) have access to a reliable bicycle for transportation needs. By refurbishing donated bicycles and teaching bicycle education,
►to foster bicycling in Billings as a viable means of transportation, and to address wealth and health disparities that exist in our communities.
►to get people on bikes and keep them there. We believe the bicycle can be a tool to create positive social change. By collaborating with other like-minded organizations and members in the community, we hope to strengthen lives far beyond the bicycle.

VISION

To create a just world where everyone is empowered and engaged in communities that foster understanding and participation and encourage the health of people and our planet.

MISSION

Our mission is to promote cycling as safe, enjoyable, and environmentally responsible transportation by providing community members with the facilities and tools, as well as the skills and knowledge.

How we live (Values)

Bicycling: We believe that bicycling is an accessible form of transportation that promotes public health, builds confidence, encourages environmental stewardship and strengthens community.
Youth: We are committed to youth empowerment. We provide youth opportunities to grow as leaders, give back to the community, work together and see themselves as owners and creators of our collective future.
Personal health: Bicycling improves the body and the mind, addressing obesity rates, and motivates people to move.
Environmental health: We believe that respecting and connecting to the world around us leads to more livable communities. We practice and encourage waste reduction and reuse, prolong the life of bicycles, promote cycling, and teach environmental stewardship.
Creating community: We work to build strong, supportive, inclusive community. We welcome and respect diversity of experience, identity, and opinion, and believe that collaboration is a powerful tool for social change.
Safety: Both on the roads and in our shops. We want people to be comfortable riding their bikes and accessing our programs.
Sustainability: Our Vision is for the long term; keeping people on bikes, recycling and re-purposing donated bicycles.
Diversity: The best thing about bikes is the range of people who access them. Bikes are for everybody and Repedal accepts individuals where they are at in life regardless of background.
Equality: Inequalities of wealth and opportunity in our community lead to the privilege of some and the marginalization of others. We see bicycles as vehicles of empowerment and our work as contributing to creating a more just and equitable world.
Education: We believe that we are all teachers and learners, and we strive to be a place where we can work, learn, and grow together. Through our work we foster creativity, critical thinking, curiosity, and cooperation.

Fun!:  Bicycles are inherently fun, but we use that to make learning fun and our community a good place to be.
